White Plains Locksmith: Battle Hill, Eastview, Ridgeway
If you have just moved into a house in Battle Hill, Eastview or Ridgeway in White Plains, or a key to your place has gone missing, the usual fix is a rekey rather than new locks. The locksmith changes the pins inside the cylinders you already have, so every old key stops working and the hardware stays on the door. Larchmont Locksmith NY covers the whole city, not only the downtown towers, and that includes Woodcrest Heights and Prospect Park on the Scarsdale border. You can call any hour, and service starts at $125.
White Plains beyond downtown
Most of what gets written about White Plains is about downtown: the office towers, the shops on Mamaroneck Avenue, the county courthouse and the big Harlem Line station. That is where the commercial lock work is, and where a lot of apartment lockouts happen.
Step a few streets away and the city changes. Battle Hill, Eastview, Ridgeway, Woodcrest Heights and Prospect Park are residential neighbourhoods. You find single-family houses, two-family houses and small apartment buildings, and the lock questions are household ones. Who else has a key? Does the back door match the front? Why does the side door need a different key from everything else?
If you searched for a locksmith near Battle Hill or a Ridgeway NY locksmith, those are the questions this post answers. The work is the same on every street in the city. What changes is the building.
Rekeying after a move in Battle Hill, Eastview or Ridgeway
A move is the most common reason to rekey. The keys you got at the closing, or from the landlord, are the ones somebody found. They are not a record of every copy ever cut. Past owners, past tenants, a cleaner, a contractor and a neighbour who fed the cat may all have had one.
Rekeying every exterior lock makes all of those keys useless at once. While the cylinders are out, they can usually be set to one new key, so the front door, back door and garage entry all take the same key. If the locks are a mix of brands, a cylinder or two may need swapping to share a key.
The full move-in checklist (counting the keys, walking every door, clearing the garage opener, resetting keypads and smart locks) is in our guide to rekeying a new house. It was written for Rye and Harrison, but nothing in it changes for a buyer in Eastview or Battle Hill, White Plains.
Two things are worth adding for White Plains:
- Two-family houses. If you bought one and rent out the other unit, rekey the shared doors (the front door, a basement door, a shared side entrance) as well as your own. Then decide who holds which key and write it down.
- Renters. If you rent, the locks belong to the landlord. Ask before anything is changed, and expect the landlord to want a key to the new cylinder.
Lost keys in Woodcrest Heights or Prospect Park
A lost key is the other big reason. Before you pay for anything, retrace your steps, call the last few places you stopped and check the car. Our post on what to do after losing your house keys walks through that, including how to decide whether a lost key is a real risk.
The short version: if anything on the ring showed your address, or the keys were in a bag that was stolen, rekey the locks that key opened, and do it soon. If the ring had only keys and a supermarket tag, you have a little more time, but a key that may never turn up is still a key someone else could use.
Rekey only the locks the lost key opened. If the garage side door and the basement door were already on a different key, they can stay as they are, unless you want everything on one key while the locksmith is there.
Prospect Park sits in the south-west corner of White Plains, right on the Scarsdale line. Some streets there feel like one place even though the address changes at the border. If your house is on the Scarsdale side, the Scarsdale locksmith page covers that village, and the work is the same.
Small buildings: the shared front door
Plenty of White Plains addresses outside downtown are small apartment buildings with one street door and a handful of units. The shared door is where rekeying gets political.
Rekeying the street door means every tenant needs a new key on the same day, so it is a job for the owner or manager to plan, not for one tenant to arrange. It makes sense when a key to that door has gone missing, when a tenant has moved out without returning keys, or when nobody knows how many copies exist anymore.
Apartment doors are simpler. At a turnover, the owner rekeys the unit's own cylinder (often a knob or lever lock plus a deadbolt) so the new tenant starts with keys nobody else holds. Mailbox locks are a separate question with their own owner, usually the Post Office or the building, and they do not come along with a door rekey.
What a rekey visit looks like
A typical call goes like this. You tell the locksmith how many doors lock with a key, what brands the locks are if you can see them, whether you want one key for everything, and whether you have a working key for each lock. With a working key the cylinder comes out quickly. Without one it still can be done, but it takes more work, so say so on the phone.
At the door, each cylinder is taken out, re-pinned to the new key, put back and tested. You should try every new key in every lock yourself before the visit ends. If a lock is worn, loose or too light for the door, that is the moment to talk about replacing it instead.
Lock rekeying starts at $125. What moves the total is the number of cylinders, whether keys are missing, the type of lock and the hour. Ask for the full figure before any work starts.

Frequently asked questions
Should I rekey after buying a house in Battle Hill, White Plains?
Yes. You cannot know how many copies of the old keys exist, and rekeying makes all of them useless while keeping the locks you already have. Do it between the closing and moving day if you can, while the house is empty.
Is there a locksmith near Eastview or Ridgeway who comes at night?
The service runs 24/7, so you can call any hour from anywhere in White Plains. Ask for a realistic arrival estimate when you call, since late-night roads and rush-hour roads are very different.
Can a lock be rekeyed if I have no key for it?
Usually, yes. It takes more work than a rekey with a working key, so mention it on the phone. If the lock is badly worn, replacing it may make more sense.
Is Prospect Park in White Plains or Scarsdale?
Prospect Park is a White Plains neighbourhood in the south-west of the city, on the Scarsdale border. Both sides of that line are among the twelve towns we cover.
